A New And Special Partnership For Abbie's Helping Hands

I am very honored to announce a special new partnership between Abbie’s Helping Hands and…..the St. Louis Veterans’ Administration Fisher House! The Fisher House is a place for military families to stay when someone they love is getting treatment in an area hospital or military medical center. Veterans can stay there if they are being treated at the VA. Active duty members can also stay there if their kids are getting treatment at an area hospital (instead of a hotel or the Ronald McDonald House). This is very important to me because I lived in a Fisher House once. When my dad was hurt in Iraq with the Army, he was at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. for a month. My mom and I stayed at the Fisher House and the Mologne House there all that time. When we were there I was a baby but my mom saved everything that people gave me when things were scary, including, you guessed it, a blanket. This is a picture of my mom holding me when I met President Bush when my dad was in the hospital.

This past weekend I had a meeting with the volunteer coordinator at our local Fisher House, which is only 6 years old and is BEAUTIFUL. Along with another group I work with called Cookin’ Crowns, we are going to be giving them blankets and baby blessing bag supplies for the kids of Fisher House, both ones getting their own medical treatment, or the kids of soldiers who are getting treatment or in the hospital somewhere and they have traveled with them to be together.

Here are pictures from my meeting with Ms. Ulonda and just the first of some blankets we will be giving them:

I am thrilled and proud to be able to give back to an organization that gave so much to me and to my family.
